Bitterness is sin

Have you ever heard the phrase ; ‘Bitterness is like a cancer’?  I must have heard this phrase when I was young and it has helped me to not go there as often as I could have and I am blessed because of it.

I was talking to God the other night about this bitterness because I see it in so many people and they seem to be unaware that it is a sin! I pray that they don’t see it as a sin simply because at the time they are not looking to God or hearing the Holy Spirit.  They are listening to the evil one.  That when they do begin to see that it is not good and again start seeking God they will recognize it as sin!  Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice: and be kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:31-32

It has been my experience that bitterness destroys life.  I have seen family and friends turn away and be ugly and hateful for years! It destroys any type of decent communication and so sad to watch them change in demeanor and spirit. When I was talking to God the other night it came to me that when we destroy life in ourselves with sin =bitterness we are destroying our relationship with the Holy Spirit first of all and that moves us from the the very throne of God that we are always seated at while living here on this earth.  I remembered John 7:38 where Jesus said, ‘He that believes on me,  as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.  vs 39 explains that Jesus spoke of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive… When we become bitter  and let it grow into a monster we are definitely drying up our well of life and our spring of living water!

That puts us in a desert. It quenches our life! Life the holy spirit gives us.  1 Thessalonians 5:19 tells us, ‘Quench not the holy spirit.’

Don’t let bitterness become your sin and quench the Holy Spirit and the spring of living water of  life.  Look up and bless God, forgive, repent and live a full Christ like life.

May we all have that godly sorrow that brings us to repentance. 2 Corinthians 7:10. Return to the throne in all your beauty and glory received at salvation.

Blessings,

Marsha

For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.  2 Corinthians 7:10
